CLEANING FIBERGLASS FACES ON FRP DOORS

When exterior doors are cleaned on a regular basis, soil and dirt will not build. A mild detergent/cleaner will help to retain an attractive new looking entrance. The embossed surfaces of the FRP sheets are easily cleaned with a soft sponge or soft brush. The optional wood grain surfaces are most easily cleaned with a soft trestle brush.

Rough Cleaning: A 5% to 10% sodium phosphate water solution no to exceed 130 degree can be used. If sodium phosphate is not available use a 5% to 10% solution of household dishwashing detergent. Should you be required to use an USDA or FDA approved cleaner, a neutral cleaner (ph range0.0 to 7.5) is preferred. Please follow the manufacturer instructions and always close the door thoroughly after cleaning.Do not use a cleaner of stain remover containing chlorine hydrocarbons or automatic hydrocarbons. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

Methods for Cleaning: Apply the cleaning agent with a sponge or soft brush working across the door surface in a circular, scrubbing motion, rinse thoroughly to remove all traces of cleaning solutions otherwise a film may build up giving the door a dull appearance.

Also, Fiberglass boat gel coat and fiberglass automotive cleaners, waxes, as well as fiberglass restores may be considered for keeping doors looking new.

CLEANING PAINTED/ANODIZED ALUMINUM SURFACES

Routinely clean painted aluminum surfaces using forceful water rinse from the top to bottom of the door. Rub with soft brush, sponge or cloth during rinsing.

A simple water rinse does not remove soil, a mild detergent or soap may be necessary. Mild detergents and soaps, which are safe for, painted aluminum. Washing with mild detergent is done by brushing or sponging with uniform pressure and thoroughly rinsing with clean water. Rinsed surface may be then be air or blown dry.

Cleaning chemicals must not be allowed to collect on surfaces in joint or crevices. During cleaning, these areas should be flushed with water and dried. Stronger cleaners such as automatic dish washing detergents should be carefully spot tested.

Avoid abrasive cleaners and cleaning materials (steel wood, abrasive brushes, etc.), do not use scour. These can wear and harm finishes. Do not use trisodium phosphate or high alkaline / acid cleaning agents.

For heavy surface soil, an abrasive pad may be used. Hand scrub metal surface using nylon abrasive cleaning pad, thoroughly wetting with fresh water or mild detergent cleaner, rub with uniform pressure across the metal grain.

After scrubbing the metal surface should be rinsed with clean water or wiped with solvent to remove all traces of residue. When using a special cleaner follow manufacturers instructions. Test a small area before applying over the entire surface.

Never use aggressive alkaline or acid cleaners on aluminum finishes. Always follow the recommendations of the cleaner manufacturer as to proper concentrations. Never allow wet cement or tile grout type products on aluminum. This is known to cause damage to aluminum surfaces.

GRAFFITI

To remove tough marks Commercial Door Systems recommends a standard graffiti remover. Common graffiti removers are excellent to eliminate marks and stains where vandalism may be heavy. Check with a local building supply store. If you can not find contact us. In most cases spray paint, marker pen, ink, scuffs, crayon and other common graffiti marks can be removed without harming door surfaces. The tough FRP surfaces stand up to repeated use of industrial strength cleaners.

Try to use Naphta if graffiti remover is not available, avoid use of lacquer thinner or mineral spirits they are known to leave a film on the surfaces. Naptha chemical seems to work well on graffiti and evaporates.

Please, when using a specialty cleaner follow the manufacturer instructions. Test a small area before applying over the entire surface. FRP materials fabricated today have improved UV additives for protection against sun fade, however normal fading over time can be expected.
